[Originally posted at ReDigi‘s blog.] Though no formal album announcements have come from his camp, pop royalty Prince continues to tease loyal fans with new tracks and surprise performances. The latest, “Screwdriver,” debuted on his website via an eight-minute video that will set viewers back two bucks to watch. He previously released another sultry appetizer, “Breakfast Can Wait.”
In addition to a taste of some new music, Paste Magazine says that the “Screwdriver” preview gives us a glimpse of The ‘Purple One’s’ purported new all-female back-up band. “The rock trio has been speculated by fans to be named 3rd Eye Girl, but the group confirmed that their lineup is still untitled, according to an interview with The Current. In the interview, they also referenced another track titled “Chapter & Verse” they recently recorded with Prince that is available on the 3rd Eye Girl Youtube page.
Prince has previously been linked musically to talented female acts, including percussionist Sheila E. in the 80′s — who was his duet partner on “Erotic City” and “Let’s Go Crazy,” but broke out with her own hit “The Glamorous Life” — as well as the star of his film “Purple Rain,” Appollonia (who was also immortalized in Kanye West lyrics). Will 3rd Eye Girl join his stable of sexy musicians?
